Big Rack of Blues deal!

I’ve always loved compilations – Motown, Specialty, Alligator, Fat Possum, so without hesitation I leapt at the suggestion by Steve Arvey and Sugar Mae Owens to put a CD sampler together for subscribers from the wonderful pool of talent among our friends at Big City Rhythm & Blues Magazine. Our subscribers are the most important element in the fabric of our magazine – a hidden, often-forgotten asset. I am quite aware of their importance and the first magazines off the press go to the subscribers. Thank-you, glad to be of service! With Steve Arvey’s and Sugar’s help we got some cuts that are fresh and toe-tappers. Go see some live music! – Robert Jr. Whitall, Publisher, Big City Blues Magazine

Featuring 16 great blues songs
from these blues artists’ CDs

Sherman Robertson & Blues Move
Guitar Man, a great Live CD from one of the Masters of the Blues, Sherman Robertson. Sherman is a master of hard-swinging Texas electric blues, R&B, zydeco, and swampy Louisiana blues. Backed by one of the top bands in the UK BluesMove this Live CD brings you a night of one of the top international touring blues legends today.

Eric Burdon
According to music critic Gary Graff, what sets Eric Burdon apart from his Carnaby Street contemporaries comes down to a single word—balls. Burdon grew up in Newcastle-on-Tyne in the north of England. Eric Burdon’s commercial and critical success of Soul Of A Man has been like is deja vu all over again “Well Muddy Waters once said that ‘the blues had a baby and they called it rock’n’roll,’” Eric stated. “And what I’m saying is that I sold my soul to rock’n’roll, and now I want the blues to take me back,” he added. For blues power it’s hard to beat Eric Burdon’s version of “Red Cross Store.”

Steven Seagal
Steven Seagal’s blues CD debut Mojo Priest is just hitting the streets. Big City Blues Magazine has been on his trail for the past year and has learned that Seagal is not only a man of many talents but found that blues is his number one passion. Check out “Somewhere in Between” and listen for yourself. You will hear Seagal’s exceptional guitar and vocal styling as well as original songwriting. Steven Seagal is a natural and talented musician.

Pete Cornelius
One of Australia’s greatest guitar players on the circuit today is Pete Cornelius. Pete and his band the DeVilles have released “Live@Narooma” recorded at the 1999 Great Southern Blues and Rockabilly Fest when Pete was just 15 years old; “Gotta’ Live” released in 2001; “Creatures of the Night” is now available and “Freerange” with Steve Arvey (USA) that was released in 2005 and Pete released “Gonna’ Burn” late 2005.

Tommy McCoy
Master Guitar Player Tommy McCoy is captured live in England with a smoking performance. This live CD captures the fantastic guitar playing and soulful vocals of one of the great blues performers of our time. Tommy is a veteran of the blues music world. He has played with Stevie Ray Vaughan, Lucky Peterson and Commander Cody to name a few. Tommy tours the world over playing major Festivals in Scandanavia and Europe.

Dave Gross
At only 21, guitarist and singer Dave Gross has developed a style all his own, leading a band of seasoned pros with blues roots that branches out in countless directions. His musical abilities are often described as being “so amazing, it’s scary.” His raw talent and drive for success, in conjunction with his admiration for the blues has turned Dave into one of the top players in the northeast. Even at his young age, Dave has already shared stages with Hubert Sumlin, Duke Robillard, Popa Chubby, Debbie Davies, Bettye LaVette and many others.

Paul Filipowicz
Over the 30 plus years of fronting his own band, Paul Filipowicz has played venues from the mid-west to Denver to stints in Texas and Mississippi. Some of his fondest memories are the shows with “Hound-Dog Taylor “and “Mighty Joe Young” in the 70’s. With 4 critically acclaimed CD’s under his belt, including two “Top 20 Texas Blues New Releases” in a row, Paul’s original slashing guitar style has been well established and documented.

Chicago Blues Angels
Based in Joliet, Illinois, CBA play Chicago blues, and other American roots music based on the blues (rock and roll, rhythm and blues, rockabilly, etc). The new CD “Lit Up” has had people talking in the industry all over the world that feature Kim Wilson, Kid Ramos, Gene Taylor, Nick Curran, Damien Llanes, Dave Biller, John Doyle and The Honeybees.

Robbie Smith
A true performer in every sense of the word, having toured all over the world with Candye Kane and the Swinging Armadillos, Robbie Smith has played his trumpet with an exquisite quality and unique style, which will leave you wanting more! Robbie considers himself a trumpet player who sings, not a singer who plays trumpet. His sound is pure, simple and perfectly executed!

Dario Lombardo
One of Italy’s top blues artists, traveling the world over Dario has made a name for himself. Dario has backed up many of the great US blues legends that have traveled to Italy including Phil Guy who he recorded a CD with in the 90’s. Dario Lombardo’s songwriting skills are superb as witnessed with his song on this sampler

Measured Chaos
Measured Chaos has become the “strangest name for a blues band, ever” said guitarist, Mark Tomorsky, “but, we like it because it really describes our ability to turn on a dime and add many feels and musical styles to our sound at any moment, all without losing the blues in the process.” Heavily influenced by Chicago’s classic blues, Detroit’s r&b, and the rock music explosion of the late sixties, you can begin to appreciate their slogan “Somewhere between Detroit and Chicago is Measured Chaos.”

Billy Watson
Billy is an entertainer extraordinaire, capable of throwing down a blues show that can be infectiously hilarious and convincingly nasty. His energy as a front man is relentless, his vocals inspiring, and his harp work musically outstanding. Billy’s repertoire ranges from creepy grooves, grinding shuffles, to fast boogies and swings. Billy’s show reminds modern audiences that blues music can be lowdown, but that in the end it’s all about having some fun, dancing, and forgetting about your worries.

Stevie Paige
The brand new album from Stevie Paige, Australia´s first lady of soul/blues has arrived. Crafted from Stevie´s popular live performances over the last two years in Australia, this album will please fans and critics alike. Whilst comparisons to music giants Janis Joplin, Aretha Franklin and Ann Peebles are frequently drawn, it is clear that Stevie´s contemporary edge will pioneer a new trail that others will follow in years to come.
